Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit flood-affected Gurdaspur in Punjab on September 9 to review rescue and relief operations and meet families impacted by the disaster, the Punjab BJP announced on Sunday.
“Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji is coming to Gurdaspur, Punjab, on 9th September. He will meet directly with the flood-affected brothers-sisters and farmers to share their sorrow and take every possible step to help the victims,” the party posted on X.
Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jhakar said the Prime Minister has been closely monitoring the situation and will personally assess conditions to ensure maximum central support. “PM Modi is deeply concerned about the flood situation in Punjab and is visiting to understand the ground realities,” he added.
The BJP also highlighted that Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan visited Punjab on September 5, and two central teams have assessed the damage. Their reports will be submitted to the central government soon.
According to officials, 46 people have lost their lives in the floods so far, while nearly 2,000 villages and over four lakh residents have been affected.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that 24 teams of the NDRF, two SDRF units, 144 boats, and a state government helicopter are engaged in relief operations. The Revenue Department has already released ₹71 crore for immediate relief measures.
